Introduction. The article considers functional and semantic characteristics of postpositions that create different defining relations with different meaning between components. The semantics of relational words make it possible to distinguish subgroups, within a group of sub-semantic nuances between components, since, in combination with the previous words, some postpositions transmit, for example, purely spatial meaning, others – spatial and temporal, etc. The purpose of the study is to analyze postpositional government with various relations in the first Mari newspaper in the national language “Voina Uver” (“Military News”); the object is postpositional government with different relations. The practical significance lies in the definition of word combinations with dependent relational words. The theoretical basis of the work was the works of Finno-Ugric researchers.
Materials and Methods. The research methodology combines methods of continuous sampling and linguistic description. The material of the study was postpositions in various respects with different shades, which were used on the pages of the newspaper “Voina Uver”.
Results and Discussion. In the Mari language, there is a large class of word combinations with dependent relational components, consisting of a name and a postposition. The most common are postpositions, which postpositional government in the dependent part of the noun with a postpositive expressing a determinative relation.
Conclusion. Having considered the word combinations with relational words, it can be stated that 25 postpositions were used on the pages of the newspaper “Voina Uver” in different ways with different shades.

The motif of the lost homeland in the lyrics by K. A. Tavaststjerna

Introduction. The object of the article is the work of the Finnish writer K. A. Tavaststjerna as a spokesperson of the Swedish part of the country’s population. The subject is his poetry, which depicts the transition from a romantic literary tradition to a realistic one, which was further developped in the author’s novels. The aim of the study is to trace the change in the language balance in Finland and analyze how the transformation of Swedish into a language of the national minority left an imprint on the creativity of the Finnish Swedes and determined the appearance of the motive of the lost homeland.

Materials and Methods. The material of the study was the poems by K. A. Tavaststjerna from different years. The use of comparative-typological, problem-thematic methods made it possible to delineate a range of lyrical works which contain the motif of a lost homeland, to compare them with the literary tradition of Finland in the middle and the end of the XIX century, and by using a historical-chronological method to accent the connection between the author’s life and his attempt to express the voice of the entire generation of Finnish Swedes.
Results and Discussion. K. A. Tavaststjerna creativity is an example of a transition from a romantic literary school in the literature of Finland to a realistic one. In the writer’s lyrics there are no motives that could be typical for the works by J. L. Runeberg and his followers., Adding some autobiographical attributes to his poems, K. A. Tavaststjerna examines the status of Finnish Swedes and conveys a sense of loss of their homeland. The reason for the outpointing of this topic was the shift in the language balance in the country in favor of the Finnish language and, accordingly, less frequent use of Swedish.
Conclusion. Lyrics by K. A. Tavaststjerna, as well as his novels, laid the foundation for the further development of Swedish literature in Finland, the formation of literature, which describes the modern social structure and current events. It distinguished the author from both Romantic predecessors and representatives of neo-Romanticism.

Introduction. The relevance of the work is determined by the increased interest of many researchers to the history of the development of Mordovian linguistics. The purpose of the article is to consider the birth and development of closely related Mordovian languages: Moksha and Erzya. The object of research is written monuments of these languages, as well as the works of Mordovian, Russian and international scholars. This work is of interest to researchers of the Finno-Ugric languages and can be used in teaching Philology students.
Materials and Methods. When writing the article, the following methods were used: an analytical and synthetic method for the search and analysis of relevant literature; comparative analysis to determine the core of various concepts, and a descriptive method.
Results and Discussion. The article describes the history of the development of Mordovian linguistics, beginning from the moment of its beginning and up to the present time (XVII – beginning of the XXI century). It also analysis the contribution made by national and international linguists.
Conclusion. The first written monuments in the Mordovian languages were created by foreign travelers as far back as the 17th century. As an area of study, Mordovian linguistics was formed at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to the works of such Russian linguists as M. E. Evseyev, A. P. Ryabov, D. V. Bubrich, F. I. Petersburgsky, and others. A great contribution to the development was made by Finnish and Hungarian linguists.

Artistic world of critical and publicist works by M. I. Malkina

Introduction. The article analyzes the critical and journalistic work of the brightest representative of the modern literary school of the Republic of Mordovia – M. I. Malkina. The object of research is the analytical articles of the reviewer as an original aesthetic phenomenon in the national-cultural discourse of Mordovia. The subject of the study is the genre features of the critical and publicist work by M.I. Malkina. The goal is to comprehend the ideological, aesthetic and stylistic identity of the analytical works by M. I. Malkina, the determination of their value ad actual meaning, the significance of the works for the critical thought of Mordovia, and the modern literary process as a whole.
Materials and Мethods. The academic validity of the results is achieved both by traditional research methods (comparative, typological, etc.), by modern humanitarian approaches (contextual, cultural, etc.) and the empirical basis of the research, compiled with the help of a representative selection of the source material and its subsequent interpretation; correlation of author’s theses with universally recognized academic positions and conclusions in the field of the theory of literature, taking into account the specific features of critical and journalistic texts.
Results and Discussion. The evolution of M.I. Malkina’s critical works testifies her high journalistic skills. It can be illustrated by her critical articles, and the reviews. The works by M.I. Malkina embody the depth and maturity of the views of the critic, and the richness of the Mordovian language. Along with the research focus of her articles, the analysis of current historical, cultural and educational issues, a great attention is paid to emotional and figurative assessments of the analyzed phenomena that accurately reflect the subjective opinion of the publicist.
Сonclusion. Critical and journalistic works by M. I. Malkina are an integral part of the literary process and critical thought of the Republic of Mordovia, and Mordovian literature in general. Being a moderator between an author and a reader, the critic offers her own vision of the works of art in her critical reviews and articles. Critical creativity by M. I. Malkina is distinguished by a combination of journalistic, research artistic, stylistic and compositional originality of the presentation.

Introduction. For the first time, the Khanty and Mansi emotic phraseological units of microfields “joy”, “love”, “fear” are compared. On the material of the Ob-Ugric languages, phraseological units have been studied fragmentarily, comparative studies have not been conducted. The urgency of the work is due to the fact that human emotions differ in different languages by verbal representation. The subject of the study is phraseological units, which include the component “heart”. The purpose of the article is to describe the similarities and differences in the structure and semantics of fixed combinations of closely related languages. The results can be used when comparing genetically unrelated languages, as well as for research in the area of grammar of the Khanty language.
Materials and Methods. The material of the study was the phraseological units with the component “heart” in the Mansi and Khanty languages selected by the author from the interviewees and from the articles on the Mansi language. The author uses comparative method and the method of component analysis.
Results and Discussion. Despite the genetic relationship of the languages, the emotional and psychological perception of the worlds of the Khanty and Mansi peoples have both similarities and differences.
Conclusion. In the Ob-Ugric languages in the microfield “joy” there are three phraseological units which are equivalent, and while six have no analogues. The semantic field “love” in both languages forms phraseological units that mean the kindness of a person; three of them coincide. A distinctive feature of the Khanty language is phraseological unit “to live with one heart-liver”. In the microfield “fear” there are seven units which are equivalent. In the Mansi language, there are verbs of destruction, which does not occur in the Khanty language.

Introduction. In Bashkiria one of the most significant and ethnically interesting ethnic groups is Mordva. It is represented by Erzya, and a small number of Moksha. Religiously, Mordva also forms several confessional groups. Among Erzya Mordovians the biggest number of people considers themselves Orthodox, a small part as Old Believers and Molokans-Subbotniks. Moksha adheres to the Orthodox faith.
Materials and Methods. This article gives a historiographical overview of research on the history of formation and ethnographic features of the Mordva now living in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The ethnoterritorial group of the Mordovians oin Bashkiria is poorly researched from ethnographic perspective; the available works are occasional and are published in various journals, sometimes completely forgotten and not introduced into academic and research focus. The authors tried to generalize the publications available to date on this topic, arranged them in chronological order, and introduce little-known work back into research field.
Results and Discussion. The beginning of the ethnographic study of the Urals Mordovians was laid in the 18th century. In the nineteenth century, many researchers and local historians touched upon the Mordovians of Ufa province. Their work reflected ethnic features on economic activities, settlements and dwellings, food and clothing. There is only one publication of that time, specifically made about the Mordva of the Ufa province. It is a newspaper article by M. Burdukov. In the Soviet period, the Mordovians of the region also did not become the subject of a study. The greatest contribution to the study of the Mordovians of Bashkiria at that time was made in the works by V. N. Belitzer. The researchers studied the folk costume and the wedding rite of the ethnoterritorial group of the people in the Bashkir ASSR. In the post-Soviet period, a great contribution to the study of the Mordovians in the Republic of Bashkortostan was made by M. V. Murzabulatov and A. S. Shcherbakov.
Conclusion. The historiographic analysis of publications on the history and ethnographic features of the Mordovians in Bashkiria shows that the history of the formation of this ethnoterritorial group, ethno-social, ethno-demographic and ethno-linguistic processes was studied most fully. The regional peculiarities of Erzyan and Mokshan clothing and the evolution of its forms have been studied to some extent. Other aspects of traditional material and spiritual culture remain poorly studied.

Introduction. The subject of the study is to analyze the life of Estonians, who came from Estland and Lifland provinces to the eastern direction, namely to Tosno and its surroundings. The aim of the study is to analyze the life of the local Lutheran parish, to describe the creation and activities of local Estonian collective farms, cultural and educational institutions. The author gives the list of places of compact residence of the Tosno Estonians in the late XIX – early XX century. The practical significance lies in the fact that the study disclosed the features of cultural life of the local Estonian community in the Tosno district of the Leningrad Region, tells about the traditions of their cultural life, as well as lists the famous Estonians, who were born in Tosno district and their contribution into the development of the this district, Estonia and Russia.
Materials and Methods. The main methods used in the study are the generalization method, the system approach, the historical-descriptive method, the document analysis, and the method of empirical description. Numerous articles and notes from Estonian newspapers, as well as materials from Estonian archives, were used to reconstruct the features of the life of the Tosno Estonians.
Results and Discussion. The author traced the dynamics of the change in the Estonian population of Tosno district, which shows an increase in the number of Estonian population after the Stolypin reform of 1906 and in the first half of the 1930s (due to the policy of nativization) and the decrease starting from the second half of the 1930s (due to the Stalinist repressions of 1937–1938, losses during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 and post-war assimilation). Due to the continuing natural assimilation, the Tosno Estonians are represented rather insignificantly in the district at the present time.
Conclusion. Tosno Estonians made the great contribution to the history and culture of the multinational Tosno district, where they have lived in addition to Estonians, Russians, Ingrian Finns, Tatars and the representatives of other nationalities lived for a long time. The phenomenon of Tosno Estonians is unique and interesting for study.

Introduction. It raises the problem of preserving folk dance tradition of the Mordovians at the beginning of the XXI century. The object of the research is an autumn folk sheaf holiday devoted to collection of a new harvest; the subject is the content of the composition of this holiday, such as the dancing characteristics of tripping movements in the form of a folk ditty. The aim of the article is to analyze the ceremonial action of the sheaf holiday, which implies the identification of compositional aspects of the direction and production data of the song and dance texts; fundamentals of the genres of ethnic folk works of Moksha Mordovians; clarification and explanation of the choreographic manner of dance performance with sheaves; description of the ethnic tripping movements as a “mini-dance” in the form of a folk ditty and a comparative analysis of its local features. The novelty and topicality of the work is determined by the methods of collecting the field material, fixing it, preserving and broadcasting it to new generations. The material can be used in the study, in the stage and professional art, but in a reconstructed form.
Materials and Methods. For this work, a systematic cultural-historical approach, descriptive and comparative methods were used. The material of the study was field records made during the folk celebration of the sheaf holiday in the village Mordovsky Pimbur of the Republic of Mordovia.
Results and Discussion. At the beginning of the XXI century a new comprehensive study of ceremonial actions of the Mordovians, ethnic specificity of folk festivals, folkloric genres of ethnic works, choreographic components of Mordovian dance allow to show the cultural and historical experience of the ethnos, its comprehension and existence of the surviving dance traditions. The empirical data confirm the hypothesis on the need for a comprehensive study of the traditions of the Mordovian sub-ethnos, which implies the consideration of the rules of human behavior and the existence of genres of ethnic works in the framework of the festive ritual culture.
Conclusion. Currently, the traditions of Mordovian rites are preserved not only in the people’s environment, but also in theatrical festivals. P tripping movements as a genre of Mordovian ethnic work is performed as “mini-dance” in the form of a folk ditty, which is inseparable from small dance songs.

Impact of globalization on the self-awareness of the Mordovians

Introduction. The relevance of the article is determined by the fact that today the traditional, original, unique Mordovian culture with its original material and spiritual values falls under the influence of globalization which can be opposed only in the reasonably. The purpose of this study is to study the impact of globalization on the Mordovian self-awareness. The object of the work is Mordovian self-awareness, the subject is the impact of globalization.
Materials and Methods. To determine the impact of globalization on the ethnic identity of the Mordovians, a sociological survey was conducted. Its subjects were first-year students of the Institute of National Culture of Ogarev Mordovia State University. To assess their ethnic identity, it used the test “Ethnic affiliation” by G. U. Soldatova, S. V. Ryzhova, J. Finney’s technique, and the methods of classification of ethnic self-consciousness by V. Yu. Khotinets. Since the level of ethnic self-awareness among the young people proved to be below average, an analytical method of research was used to show the reasons for this state of affairs.
Results and Discussion. Having studied the history of the Mordovian ethnos, we came to the conclusion that it has undergone various metamorphoses: from the rooting to the Russification. The latter had a serious impact on the mother tongue of the Mordovian population. Before the beginning of globalization the ethnos fell under the impact of integration processes. After the collapse of the USSR, the bilingualism returned, and political and legal bases for preserving national specificity of Mordovian culture were created. Now it is important to direct the development of the Mordovian ethnos along the path of glocalization.
Conclusions. The process of globalization changing the paradigm of the development of mankind provokes ambiguous reactions in the representatives of the Mordovian ethnos from ethnoegism, ethno-isolationism to ethno-nihilism and national indifference. We need a national idea capable of awakening feelings of patriotism and pride for our ethnos. The emphasis must be made on the glacialization of Mordovia and its transformation into a transboundary region.

Dialects of the Vepsian language in the context of linguistic geography

Introduction. The Vepsian language is a language of a minority nation, which has been in a focus of quite successful process of revitalization. Since 2012 a work on “Vepsian linguistic atlas” has been carried out aiming at elucidation of an issue of Finnic protolanguage fonectec, grammatic and lexical reflexes, an innovative Vepsian material, results of language contacts and finally of the problems of Vepsian dialect area forming.
Materials and Methods. Within linguistic geography method the research material is a Vepsian dialect material collected by means of a special questionnaire of “Vepsian linguistic atlas” as well as from various archives and published materials with a clear record system and determined locations of the dialect material.
Results and Discussion. The article presents research study of Vepsian dialects and dialect history. It describes some principles of “Vepsian linguistic atlas” based on three linguistic maps (Vepsian names for ‘soft’, ‘garret’, ‘snake’), which show the etymology of Vepsian lexical reflects of the Finnic protolanguage or Finno-Ugric languages, its innovative character and borrowings.
Conclusion. The presented materials allow to observe the development of Vepsian central areas, which often demonstrate ancient reflexes of Finnic protolanguage together with formation of various innovations. From the other side, peripheral territories (Vepsian Eastern dialects of Babayevo district of Vologda region), located on the border of Vepsian language area, currently demonstrate a strong will to save own language system and lexicon, a heritage of the Vepsian ancient language. Vepsian substrate, which is said to be partially lost in the border territories, appear in lexemes almost forgotten in some even central dialects, influencing Vepsian dialect area’s formation. This supports an idea of a special longing of the border territories to preserve own identity, own characteristics in comparison with the population around.

Introduction. In Russian linguistics, there is a dominance of a functional (communicative) approach to the consideration of questions of bilingualism. Fluency in a foreign language leads to the appearance of intermediate system which differs from the mother tongue by the presence of two systems of signifiers. The inevitable phenomenon of interference leads primarily to phonetic errors in the speech of the bilinguals. This article reviews the mechanisms of realization of interrogative sentences with the direct word order in the Mari and French languages and makes comparative analysis of the findings. The relevance of the research is caused by the interference processes in conditions of artificial bilingualism. This subject of this research is the difference in intonation of interrogative sentences in Mari and French, the object of the research is a general question with the direct word order in the compared languages. The aim is to identify universal and distinctive features in Mari and French interrogative sentences with direct word order.
Materials and Methods. The data for the research was the recordings of the speech of the speakers of the French language as the native and French spoken by Mari students. Comparative method of studying interference gives objective data on differences in systems of contacting languages. It explains the linguistic reasons for intonation errors. An experimental phonetic research of the speech of Mari students studying French plays an important role. An intonographic method to compare the melodies of various communicative types of Mari and French phrases was used during the course of the study.
Results and Discussion. The Mari language reveals a universal character of the intonation processing of the questions with direct word order, which is ascending melody of the intonation center of the phrase. The differences from the intonation of the French sentence is the place of the intonation center, the movement of the tone on precentral and postcentral syllables, as well as the dynamic structure of the phrases. The instrumental analysis shows a minor difference between the standard French intonation and the record of the voice of Mari student pronouncing this type of French phrases, namely: a relatively smooth intonation in the initial and middle parts of the phrase, the lowering tone on the initial syllables, which is not in the standard, and the melodic rise on the accented syllable.
Conclusion. The native speakers of the Mari language in generally correctly reproduce the melodic structure of the French phrase. However, prosodic interference affects the intonation contour of phrases in the initial and middle parts of it, and their rhythmical-syllabic structure: different temporal characteristics, the slowing rate of the speech, the stretch of the pretonic syllables and the increase of the number of accents.

Lexical and syntactic structure of word combinations in Erzya newspapers of the 20–30s of the XX century

Introduction. The newspaper, being considered a medium of mass communication, has unlimited accessibility, facilitating the transition from a pre-national, unformed and functionally limited state to a nationwide, normed and functionally expanded state. Given this meaning, the author provides a linguistic analysis of the newspapers texts published in the Erzyan language in the 1920s and 1930s. of XX century. The purpose of the article is to describe the journalistic language based on observations of certain linguistic indicators that reflect the formation and normalization of Erzya’s literary language. The object of research is the syntactic structure and lexical content of the texts of the first Erzya newspapers. Conclusions and provisions of the article can be used in the preparation of teaching manuals and lectures on the course “Lexicology of the Mordovian languages”.
Methods and Materials. When revealing typical linguistic indicators, the descriptive and comparative typological methods of investigation are applied. The empirical database were the newspapers Chin Styamo (Sunrise), Yakster Teshte (Krasnaya Zvezda), Yakster Sokitsa (Red Plowman), Erzyan Kommun (Erzyan Commune).
Results and Discussion. For a detailed description of the language material, it is classified according to the following lexical-thematic groups: a) texts containing socio-political information; b) texts reflecting the development of the economic system; c) texts on social, popular and cultural issues; d) texts of artistic works. In each of the groups, there are substantive, verb, adjective and adverbial phrases. The proposed article describes the lexical composition of substantive and verbal collocations.
Conclusion. As a result of the analysis of the syntactic structure and lexical composition it was concluded that in substantive and verbal phrases both native lexical elements, and borrowings from the Russian language or internationalists that are included in the Erzya language through Russian are equally represented. That allowed us to distinguish the combinations consisting of: a) original vocabulary; b) original vocabulary and borrowings; c) only borrowings.
